Sochi International Film Festival is held in accordance with the Plan of the main activities during the year of Russian cinema of the Russian Federation Ministry of Culture and has the status of an International Competitive Festival of full-length feature films.

Festival Aims and Objectives:
- Promotion of outstanding Russian films in the UK and internationally.
- Promotion of outstanding British films in Russia.
- Creating partnerships between Russian and British filmmakers, as well as between the Russian and Western European masters of cinema.
- Clearance of anti-Russian myths and stereotypes for foreign filmmakers.
- Inspirational and discovery works for Russian and foreign filmmakers for creating an objective picture of Russian society and the Russian reality.
- Assistance to Russian filmmakers in the implementation of original ideas and projects.
- Providing young Russian and British filmmakers the opportunity to participate in international film festivals.
- Creating favorable conditions for creative cooperation between Russian and British filmmakers.
- Promoting the image of Sochi as a world cultural center.
The supreme body of the Festival is SIFA Directorate (hereinafter - management SIFA). SIFA management with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation; Administration of the resort city of Sochi and the Ministry of Culture of the Krasnodar region provides organizational, financial, logistical, informational and other support to all areas of activity of the Film Festival.
The program of the Festival includes:
Program of Russian and British films.
Terms & conditions
Selection Committee of the Festival selects the films for the Festival program. Films submission to the The First Sochi International Film Awards (Festival) should be done via on-line PayPal. The Regular Deadline for entries is November 15, 2016, the Extended Deadline is November 30, 2016.
Official notification date goes to the website closer to the the day of the Official Press-Conference of the Festival.
The Festival program includes films, which have not been publicly screened on the territory of the Russian Federation (excluding Retrospectives and the Program of the films). General Management of the 1st SIFA determines the festival-screening schedule. Each film can be shown not more than five times during the Festival, including press screenings.
Only full-length feature films produced after December 2015 are accepted for competition.
World and International premieres are the preference for the Competition programs.
Only 12 films will participate in the Main Competition of the First Sochi International Film Festival: 6 Russian (with one or two of former USSR) and 6 British (one or two from any other country of the world).
Acceptable formats for the Main Feature Competition are DCP or Blu-ray.
Screening copies of the films selected for Competition programs should be in original language with English subtitles, if the original language is not English.
Presentation copies for application can be streamlined with link on the Internet or submitted in DVD.
Prints of the films selected for Competition programs should be delivered to General management of SIFA not later than November 15, 2016.
Films which participate in the Non-competition section (except Retrospective screenings) should not have been previously screened in Russia.
Acceptable formats for the films participating in Retrospective programs are 35 mm or DCP. Preferable format for the films selected to the other out-of-competition programs is DCP with the original version of the film, in case the original version in not in English - with English subtitles. Screening copies should be delivered to General management of the 1st SIFA before November 15, 2016.
All conditions and suggested dates are obligatory; otherwise, the Management of the 1st SIFA has the right to exclude the film from the Festival program.
Making applications and documents for participation in the festival:
Those wishing to take part in the festival competition application please fill the form below and send it to SIFA Directorate online as it is indicated.
Duly filled in and signed Entry-form for each selected film, confirming the participation in the 1st SIFA should arrive before November 1, 2016.
Entry-form must be accompanied by the following documentation:
- The dialogue list in the original language and in one of the following languages: Russian, English;
- The list of subtitles accordingly;
- Synopsis, press and promotional materials;
- Excerpts from the film and trailers;
- Materials for the festival catalogue, including a detailed biography and filmography of the director, a director's photo as well as slides from the film.
Transportation and insurance of prints
General management of the 1st SIFA covers all transportation costs for the screening copies of films selected to the Competition programs (AIRPORT of sender-Sochi-AIRPORT of recipient).
General management of the FESTIVAL covers transportation costs for the screening copies of the films selected to the other Festival sections from Sochi to AIRPORT of recipient.
General management of the FESTIVAL covers all film storage and insurance expenses during the Festival.
Terms of participants staying at the Festival:
General Management of the 1st SIFA determines all the terms of guests invitation and accreditation.
Each film participating in the Main Competition should be personally presented by 1 representative (director/producer or lead actor).
General management of the FESTIVAL covers the following expenses:
- round-trip tickets and hotel accommodation up to 4-days for 1 representative of the Main Competition films.
Hospitality terms for other official guests of the Festival will be indicated in their personal invitations.
Applications for accreditation should be sent before November 1, 2016.
For all participants of the festival SIFA management will prepare proposals for accommodation, meals and transfers, in accordance with the accepted classification:
Jury of the festival will present: prominent Russian cinema and art authorities as well as the UK and prominent representatives of world cinema. The number of Jury - seven people.
The International Jury of Main Competition (the Grand Jury will be set up to judge the films in the Competition programs.
General management of SIFA will cover round-trip tickets and hotel accommodation for each Grand Jury member and one accompanying person.
The Grand Jury will award the following prizes
- Statuettes of IRIDA:
- Main prize for the Best Film (goes to the producer);
- Special Jury prize (awarded in accordance with the Jury's decision)
- Prize for the Best Director
- Prize for the Best Actor
- Prize for the Best Actress
The Organizing Committee and General Management of the SIFA will also award the following prizes:
- Special Prize for “Outstanding Contribution” to the world cinema.
- Special prize for an outstanding contribution to peace building bridges between Russia and the UK as well as the rest of the world through culture.
SIFA will invite all winners in its festival competition to participate in the Sochi Film Awards film week and/or a British festival in Britain such as the Raindance Film Festival in London.
The Sochi International Film Festival can be Sponsored by any organization or company that supports the goals and objectives of SIFA, participating in it’s financing, organization and holding.
Changes in the competitive program after applications are ended will not be accepted. Improperly completed forms and applications (error in the title, first or last names of the director, screenwriter, actor, etc.), entails an incorrect registration of the diploma.

Participation in SIFA presumes observation of all articles of the present Regulations. In case of any disputes, which may arise out of the present Regulations, only the General Management of the SIFA has the power to settle all cases and issues not covered by these Regulations according to the clauses of the International Regulations of FIAPF for Film Festivals.
